Morton Salt Shed

Originally constructed in 1930, the Morton Salt Shed and Warehouse Complex has been a familiar and beloved landmark along North Elston Avenue between Division Street and North Avenue in Chicago. For decades, the iconic hand-painted sign has captivated people traveling along busy Interstate I-90 and on Elston Avenue at ground level.

My yearlong photo documentation project chronicles the compelling work of reimagining and transforming this imposing structure, while honoring its history and its working-class roots. A heartfelt thanks to Blue Star Properties and all who have made it possible for me to be onsite to photograph this process.
